Explanatory films and interviews: Communicating expertise in video formats
Conveying information quickly and clearly to an online audience on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc. is considered the supreme discipline on social media platforms. Explainer videos and interviews have therefore become an integral part of the digital knowledge transfer portfolio. But how do you go about it - what types of explanatory films are there and how do I best present myself and my content?

Explanatory films on social media
Explainer videos can be conceived and designed in a variety of ways. Whether purely animated, as a mixture of animation and real footage or an expert interview, or as a purely real image - different formats and lengths are possible. Each social media platform has its own specifications, target groups and preferences.
- Duration: From 30-90 second clips (pure animations) to explainer videos lasting several minutes (real image and animations) and documentaries
- Image style: Layering technique, flat style and pictogram design or as a combination of animation and real shots of people and places in interviews
- Audio: Mostly voice-over and use of music to complement the textual and visual information
- Communication goals: Conveying the information content using examples and illustrations in coherent storytelling or in individual sections
- Suitable use: Entertainment or edutainment to convey knowledge of complex contexts, explanations of terms, explanations of how products and processes work, facts or trivia

Imparting knowledge with explanatory films
Explainer videos and animated explainer videos
Explainer videos are very popular as a tool for conveying information: people share the experience and expertise they have gained in their professional environment.
We demonstrate how content that requires explanation can be combined with entertaining information videos, for example, by producing several explainer video series for the YouTube channel of Charité Berlin: What is the difference between type A and type B diabetes? Or what are the actual signs of an expected heart attack? Using expert interviews with doctors and animated infographics, we present complex medical topics in an understandable way, making the context tangible and accessible by introducing people who have developed a great deal of expertise in their professional field.
Explanatory films based exclusively on animations, where no filming takes place or people and locations have to be coordinated, also contribute to communicating complex medical contexts.
Motion design
Dynamic motion design can also be used to communicate a broad range of topics in several individual clips and over several episodes. With this in mind, the EU Commission approached us with a brief to present the EU project European Language Data Space in entertaining animated explanatory videos - entirely using moving colour surfaces, typography and design elements as well as AI-based voice-over.
The results were published as a five-part LinkedIn campaign, which was aimed at an audience from the worlds of business, science and culture over a period of several weeks. The complex of topics relating to data security, data exchange and technical functions can now be understood by viewers within a few seconds using the animated icons and written information. A recurring appearance of the animation series is also achieved through the integration of corporate branding elements such as logos, symbols and colour tones.
Video trailer with AI-generated voice-over
Our design of a video trailer for SIEMENS, in which artificial intelligence was also the theme of the event, shows that not only real but also AI-generated voice-overs in different languages can now be used in a production.
Closer audience loyalty
The possibilities of combining textual and visual levels, using different formats and lengths and combining facts and emotionality make video productions so versatile. Whether it's crisp, short teasers announcing an event, invitation trailers and political greetings introducing a conference, or comprehensive image film productions and interview situations - video formats are as versatile as you need them to be.
Reach your target audience through 360-degree communication
As a digital agency, we have been conceptualising and designing all types of video productions for years, advising our clients in all production phases and know what video productions in Berlin and nationwide can achieve.
In contrast to traditional film production companies, we offer you holistic 360-degree communication: our expertise in editorial content creation, graphic design, accessibility and meaningful accompanying forms of communication are also incorporated into the realisation. Use our knowledge to build a closer relationship with your audience.
Because publishing a film is not just about sending content out into the world: It is also always about considering strategic goals and the target group approach in advance and realising them via an aesthetic audiovisual design on the desired target platforms.
We help you to develop the right format, the content focus and the appropriate design so that your content and formats reach and convince the target audience. The choice of platform, the right staging and the decision as to whether to use film, animation or a combination of styles are crucial to your success.
Let us bring our expertise together to make your explanatory film effective and target-oriented.
