TYPO3 v14 LTS: new functions, clear upgrade advantages
TYPO3 v14 LTS has been released. For companies and organizations already using TYPO3, the new LTS version is more than just a regular update: it introduces improvements for editorial workflows, multilingual capabilities, and marketing workflows—while also laying a solid foundation for the years ahead. That’s exactly why now is a good time to review your upgrade path.

With its version 14 LTS (Long Term Service), the open-source TYPO3 CMS relies on a comprehensively revised backend, new editorial and technical functions and long-term planning security. Thanks to long-term support, TYPO3 v14 will receive bug fixes until 31 December 2027 and security fixes until 30 June 2029. For existing TYPO3 websites, this means that those who set the course now can not only keep their own platform up to date, but also further develop editorial processes and technical structures in a targeted manner.
Modernised backend: more overview, less friction
One of the most visible changes in TYPO3 v14 LTS is the modernised backend. Navigation, module structure and terminology have been revised so that editors can find what they need more quickly and navigate through the system more easily. The document header has also been redesigned, including with breadcrumb navigation and standardised language switching for multilingual installations.
This is particularly relevant for communication and marketing teams: If the daily maintenance of content becomes more intuitive, the effort involved in everyday work is reduced. This frees up time for what really matters - good content, clean campaigns and reliable editorial processes.
Advantages for content teams with multilingualism and campaigns
TYPO3 v14 LTS brings several new features that are particularly interesting for editorial teams. These include a guided translation workflow that organises the editing of multilingual content more clearly. TYPO3 also introduces new modules for short URLs and QR codes. Short URLs can be used specifically for campaigns, presentations or print materials; the QR code module offers download options such as PNG and SVG in various sizes.
This is a practical added value for marketing and communication departments: campaigns can be linked more directly to the website, links can be played out in a more controlled manner and linking to digital touchpoints in print or event communication becomes easier. At the same time, international or multilingual organisations benefit from the fact that translation processes in TYPO3 v14 are more structured and efficient.
New basis for future TYPO3 projects
In addition to the improvements in the backend, TYPO3 v14 LTS comes with Camino, a default theme that can be used immediately. It was designed as an optional system extension and can provide a functional starting point for new installations in particular. For new websites, development and integration processes can be set up more efficiently without directly affecting existing projects during the upgrade.
TYPO3 v14 LTS also marks the next technical step with modernised basics, updated requirements for extensions and support for current PHP versions. Organisations that are interested in a secure, easily maintainable and connectable website in the long term will thus have a reliable basis for the coming years.
An upgrade to TYPO3 v14 LTS should not just be seen as a necessary update. Used correctly, it is an opportunity to make your own website more robust, efficient and future-proof.

Now is the right time for an upgrade check
In many cases, an upgrade to TYPO3 v14 LTS is much more than just a version change. Existing websites differ greatly: the extensions used, individual backend configurations, integrations, deployment setups or editorial processes that have evolved have a major influence on how complex and how sensible an upgrade path can be. The TYPO3 documentation points out, for example, that upgrade wizards may be relevant for upgrades to v14 and that formats or technical principles have changed in individual areas.
This is precisely why it is worth taking a structured look at your own installation. An upgrade check provides clarity: Which requirements have already been met? Which extensions and individual functions need to be checked? Which improvements can be directly linked to the change - for example in terms of editing, multilingualism, security or performance? This can turn an upcoming upgrade into a sensibly planned development step.
