GenKI4Media: Generative AI assistants for the media, cultural and creative sectors

AI support for creating multimodal formats

Interactive dossiers on current topics such as federal elections or climate change, high-quality cross-media content that appeals to multiple senses, barrier-free presentation: the demands on editorial teams are increasing. At the same time, both the amount of data available worldwide and the pressure to capture and present it in the best possible way are increasing.

Generative artificial intelligence (GenKI) is intended to make work easier as an assistance system: it can support the creation of high-quality content modules - from searches to the creation of content and content structures to the transformation and enrichment of content to improve accessibility.

The aim is an interactive editorial workflow in which the tasks of research, creation and production of content merge seamlessly.

The assistant for generating multimodal media formats for culture, politics and education - our area of responsibility at 3pc - is one of a total of three modules in the joint project GenKI4Media: The assistant for standards and regulations in the media sector helps with the critical assessment of online content with regard to new or changing regulations on data protection, discrimination, supply chains or climate protection, while the assistant for generating demonstrators for the creative and cultural sector allows the creation of visual representations (2D and 3D assets and scenarios, data visualisations, sketches) for early concept or pitch phases.

Step by step assistance to the multimodal media format

With a range of functionalities, implemented as software solutions, we aim to considerably simplify editorial work in the media, cultural and creative sectors.

GenKI-based searches

AI can even help with research in internal and external media archives: The assistant quickly compiles information from various sources, international databases, articles, photo collections, tables, etc. - including image suggestions and, of course, all source references. Material that you can continue working with immediately.

GenKI-based services - content modules

AI assistants help to generate and edit multimodal content modules for various web formats such as websites or social media.

This also involves the preparation of data for interactive applications, for example before elections: Statistics, maps and overviews of all constituencies and corresponding texts on candidates can be presented in a new way.

GenKI-based services - Accessibility

AI helps to transform and enrich complex media content in order to make it accessible to different target groups. This often involves time-consuming work such as creating image descriptions and ALT texts or labelling elements for screen readers; translations into plain language or source references for statistics and quotes etc. are also possibilities.

Integrated workflow

The various GenKI-based services flow together in an integrated workflow: from automated research and the generation of referenceable content modules to the creation of publishable media formats.

Convenient connection of the assistance system via interfaces

Thanks to an "API First Strategy", the assistance system can be universally integrated into existing editorial systems - a major advantage for commercial utilisation. The AI-based functionalities can be called up via standardised data interfaces (APIs) in order to implement the input, enrichment and output of data independently of the respective editorial system.
