Berlinische Galerie

Research trip to Berlin art

The Berlinische Galerie - one of the youngest museums in Berlin - presents the diversity of the Berlin art world from 1870 to the present day. Changing exhibitions, selected works from the collection and additional digital access open up new perspectives on modern and contemporary art. The museum sees itself as a place where local history and global influences meet.

The Collection Online supplements the Berlinische Galerie's internet presence with an additional research portal that provides researchers and art enthusiasts with barrier-free, digital access to the Berlinische Galerie's holdings.

Explore variety and details with a click

With its new online collection, the Berlinische Galerie has expanded its digital offering many times over: Around 40,000 works and digital copies can now be explored from anywhere at the click of a mouse via a dedicated page based on the Berlinische Galerie's corporate design - and the number is growing as the entire collection is digitised.

A central search field on the collection's homepage invites users to discover the collection online and facilitates direct access to research.
Whether artists, works or collections - the search function leads directly to relevant content and can be further refined with filters. The results not only provide images of the works, but also in-depth background information on artists and their exhibitions - clear, factual and well-structured.

"Art for all" taken seriously

The concept of "art for all" is a central component of the online collection. This is particularly evident in the flexible display options for greater accessibility: visitors can adjust the font sizes individually, and the choice between a light and a dark mode also enables adaptation to different lighting conditions and individual visual needs.

From the sofa to the permanent exhibition

The virtual site plan integrated into the online collection provides a link to the real exhibition rooms and enables intuitive navigation through the rooms. Detailed information on the works on display in the permanent exhibition can also be conveniently accessed online.
In addition, the site plan provides a clear spatial context that helps to recognise thematic connections between the works - making digital exploration and research even more interactive and user-friendly.
