Multimedia between book covers

"Strengthening democracy - promoting civil society": under this motto, the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) has been promoting democracy and political participation for more than 70 years. Since 2003, 3pc has been responsible for the cross-media internet portal bpb.de as an external editorial team, we write posts for the messenger channel "Your daily dose of politics" and realise the popular Wahl-O-Mat. And we are always open to new requests: For example, to add multimedia content to the book "Zeitbild Nationalsozialismus" using a scan app we developed ourselves.
Almost 500 pages of exciting and richly illustrated information: The hardback "National Socialism. Aufstieg - Macht - Niedergang - Nachgeschichte" by Gerhard Paul and Michael Wildt from the Zeitbilder series of the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb) is certainly no lightweight. But there is much more between the covers of the book. At the request of the bpb, an app was created to supplement the printed content with multimedia.

Access videos, audio and more via barcode
"Zeitbild Nationalsozialismus" can be found free of charge in any app store. The highlight: the mobile app is directly linked to the book pages - many of them have barcodes that can be scanned directly from the app. They lead to 125 additional illustrations, 75 film and video sequences, 109 audio files, 130 secondary texts and text documents, linked geodata and 90 links to websites and web portals that bring the printed content to life on the smartphone or tablet through additional contemporary testimonies.
Making hidden contemporary testimonies accessible
We developed the app together with the bpb and implemented it conceptually, graphically and technically. Materials that are otherwise scattered in archives can now be accessed at the click of a mouse: they are protected on the bpb website and are displayed on the screen from the app.
Immerse yourself in history on a treasure hunt
More than 500 media that are otherwise difficult to find or not publicly accessible as well as suggestions for further reading - once you start reading and scanning with the book on your lap, you will be surprised: Don't lose track of time! The hybrid book, which combines a print edition with a free app, encourages you to delve deeper and deeper into less familiar aspects of the story - on your own multimedia user journey.
