Symposium "Between flight and arrival"

"Between flight and arrival" - this was the central theme of the symposium that we organised for Save the Children Germany on 12 October 2023 at the Urania in Berlin. The all-day event focussed on the psychological needs of refugee children and young people in Germany. With around 100 participants and 10 speakers, the symposium offered a platform for exchange and information on current psychosocial care for this target group.

Rights and challenges of refugee children

Many refugee children have had traumatic experiences and suffer from social uprooting and uncertain future prospects. Save the Children Germany organised a symposium to highlight the rights of refugee children and draw attention to the particular psychosocial challenges in Germany.
Over 100 years of commitment to children's rights

Save the Children can look back on over 100 years of global commitment to children's rights and now works as an international network of 30 member organisations in 113 countries. The symposium was part of the project "Promotion of child and youth programmes in the field of psychosocial support".
The project is being implemented as part of Save the Children Germany's Ukraine emergency aid programme: it campaigns for the rights of refugee children and supports Ukrainian children and their families as they arrive in Germany.

High-ranking panel and solution-orientated approaches

A particular highlight was the keynote speech by Elise Bittenbinder, Chairwoman of the Federal Association of Psychosocial Centres for Refugees and Torture Victims (BAfF) and the European Network of Rehabilitation Centres for Victims of Torture. The professional moderation of Anke Plättner (e.g. Berliner Phoenix Runde) guided the participants through the varied programme, which ranged from an analysis of the current situation to solution-oriented approaches and practical workshops.
From a single mould: the event management

We were responsible for managing the event: from consulting and conception to researching locations, moderation and technology to on-site implementation - our services covered the entire spectrum. We focussed in particular on stakeholder management and participant management. We ensured a smooth process with a targeted time, resource and material deployment plan. We also created visual highlights through graphic recording - and took care of the final billing and controlling.

The result

A sustainable and effective symposium that emphasised the rights of refugee children and drew attention to the special psychosocial challenges in Germany.
