Wahl-O-Mat 2021 reaches the finish line with an all-time record

More than 21 million users for the Bundestag elections, over 1 million users for the Berlin House of Representatives elections and more than 300,000 for the state elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The Wahl-O-Mat has finally become a must-have for German election preparation.
Why is it impossible to imagine the pre-election period in Germany without the Wahl-O-Mat and why is it becoming increasingly popular despite its age? It's actually quite clear: because the principle is ancient, but at the same time reduction at its best. It focusses on the essentials and reduces the sometimes confusing information gathering on parties, topics and theses to a manageable formula: agree, neutral, disagree or skip.

For almost two decades, the Wahl-O-Mat has withstood every fast-moving design trend and every multimedia overload and has remained true to its minimalist, smart success model. However, the simple orange box is continuously evaluated and further developed in terms of content, technology and design in order to take user feedback into account. For the 2021 super election year, it has been given a new look, as it has done a few times before, and above all it boasts new usability.

It is now even easier to engage with the results. Users can explore what they are particularly interested in: individual theses in the party comparison, the reasons for these theses or the most important positions of the parties. What's more, positions and weightings can now be tuned this year. Even small changes can have a major impact on how closely your own opinion matches the positions of the parties.
What does the Wahl-O-Mat do best?
This little tool makes us think, it forces us to take a stand: Only by answering the various questions on climate change, school policy or the minimum wage, for example, can I find out which party is closest to me. A playful tool for political decision-making - what more could you want?
