Digital cultural assets: Libraries on the net

"Libraries alone are the secure and lasting memory of the human race." This statement by the 19th century philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer has lost none of its relevance and topicality. It is precisely because libraries are facing new challenges and hurdles in the face of digitalisation that their online presence plays an important role in society's perception.
The German Library Association (dbv) has been committed to libraries in Germany for over 60 years and today supports over 3,000 member libraries nationwide. These include community libraries, state and municipal libraries, academic libraries and numerous other branches. In order to achieve its primary goal - the promotion of the library system - the German Library Association strengthens the role of libraries in society and politics and cooperates with political decision-makers. In addition to providing the population with nationwide library services, the dbv supports specialist events, action days and campaigns as well as interdisciplinary and supra-regional cooperation between libraries.
TYPO3 - for barrier-free communication
The dbv website is the central networking point for the various members and informs visitors about current projects. In order to precisely implement the requirements of the German Library Association, we used the TYPO3 content management system for the relaunch of the site, which can be customised using various extensions and features: We have created a web-based communication system with which the members of the dbv can communicate easily and securely. Registration forms for events can be customised according to requirements using TYPO3 features. Thanks to well thought-out conception, design and development, we have created a logically structured, clear and practical site that we still maintain technically and editorially today.
In addition to the main site, we also managed independent project sites for the German Library Association, e.g. the campaign site "Deutschland liest. Treffpunkt Bibliothek" campaign page or the "Kompetenznetzwerk für Bibliotheken" (knb) page.
