Modern medicine communicated in a modern way

Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of the largest university hospitals in Europe and combines research, teaching and patient care at the highest international level. In addition to academic teaching, Charité, with its more than 100 clinics and institutes, also imparts specialist knowledge from all areas of modern medicine to the general public.
Together, we create more than 30 explanatory videos and 60 short formats on the topics of health, medicine and research for the Charité YouTube channel - from conception to publication.

Complex topics reduced to the essentials

How is modern medical knowledge communicated to students, experts and laypeople alike? By skilfully explaining complicated issues in simple terms - and publishing them where they can reach a wide audience!
With this goal in mind, the Charité physicians broke new ground with two YouTube series. Thanks to their openness to tips and suggestions from our 3pc experts, a project developed in a collegial atmosphere that was great fun for everyone involved

One goal - two formats

We started with a conceptualisation workshop: We worked together to develop the two main formats of the season production. In "Charité-Hörsaal", experts report on various clinical pictures in entertaining explanatory videos, while "Diagnose Krebs" primarily provides information about different types of cancer using anonymised patient cases.

Say goodbye to stage fright!

As a basis for the actual filming, we developed manuscripts for each video in close consultation with the respective experts. The videos were then recorded on location, including in the historic Kopsch lecture theatre of the anatomy building with its steep wooden rows of seats and in the "Windows of Science" event room of the Charité CrossOver building. Thanks to the grandiose setting and the sensitive support provided by the project management, video operator and other sound and lighting technicians, the protagonists were able to quickly familiarise themselves with the unfamiliar situation.

Refinement at the editing suite

In post-production, we took the next steps towards the finished video format: we carried out the colour grading, took care of the editing and sound design and created animated infographics to visually illustrate complicated relationships alongside the spoken word.

Great result with a call for more

The first videos have already gone online on the Charité YouTube channel - and the feedback on them has been consistently very positive. The team of featured experts has received our first videos with great interest and is also asking to become part of the video series. We are very pleased that we were able to contribute our expertise in the production of real image and animation formats so well and are already looking forward to the next topics and video productions in Berlin!
