Deutsches Museum

The largest technology museum in the world

The Deutsches Museum is the largest technology museum in the world. As a scientific institution, it houses a collection of over 107,000 objects in more than 50 specialised fields and invites its visitors to learn, experience and meet. The renowned museum commissioned 3pc to relaunch its website. The aim was to create a digital presence that offers users orientation, invites them to engage and complements and deepens their visit in the digital space.

A digital reorientation: heading for the goal with workshops

First stop: The brand workshop as the most important basis for the digital reorientation of the museum and for defining central attributes of the new website. Our aim was to translate the competences and thematic positioning of the Deutsches Museum into a brand vision with an individual set of values and user promise. The result? Bringing the brand to life! Together, we developed a brand personality for the Deutsches Museum. We involved various stakeholders in the workshop to ensure that the brand identity is lived and transported by all employees as much as possible.

"Thanks to a very well-structured and moderated relaunch process, we have a website and a customised CMS that perfectly meet the diverse needs of our users and visitors."

A customised layout

One museum - five locations: Deutsches Museum - Museumsinsel, Deutsches Museum Bonn, Deutsches Museum Nürnberg, Flugwerft Schleißheim and Verkehrszentrum München. We have developed separate key visuals for each of the different locations.

Locations in their own glory: With animations, colour palettes and graphics, each museum shows its unique character.
"The challenge was to bring users and visitors quickly to the desired location or topic - thanks to 3pc's structured approach, we succeeded perfectly."

Deutsches Museum Digital

The website as a museum. The exhibitions are expanded with digital content on the web. This makes it possible to display individual objects on the website, for example for thematically appropriate exhibitions or focal points.

Rethinking content

In addition to the many practical service features, we have also reorganised the content and used storytelling to present it clearly in key topics. Better networking of content: An extensive category system now makes it possible to display related content anywhere on the site in a simple and targeted manner. This is particularly practical for the museum blog, which now has greater editorial freedom.

Thanks to a target group-specific content concept, knowledge is communicated even more directly. Training in search engine optimisation and the design of a writing style guide support the editors in bringing the sophisticated content to the users in a targeted manner.

New feature: Today+

An important format of the site is the calendar, which can also display events and exhibition announcements for specific locations. The "Today +" feature summarises the most important facts about a visit to the museum at a glance.

"The agency responds flexibly to our wishes and also realises complex tasks at short notice. 3pc thinks along with us - the agency also considers and implements aspects that you as a customer don't think about."
