Reaching people

So many offers, so much to discover: In order to communicate the goals and identity of the German Commission for UNESCO in a transparent and easily accessible way, we advised the DUK on its digital communication strategy before implementing its new website.

Who should be reached via the website? And what is the best way to do this? In co-creative workshops, we worked out the most important target groups and developed measures to reach them effectively - from a clear menu structure, easy-to-find information and a more emotional approach to the use of multimedia content.

The fresh look of the site now also encourages users to explore the content: In close consultation with our contacts, the corporate design was given a makeover and clear design guidelines now strengthen DUK's online profile and its recognisability.

Special solutions for special requirements

Presenting the important message and the many socially relevant projects: With TYPO3 (version 12) as the basis and customised extensions, a website was created that meets the wishes and objectives of the German Commission for UNESCO.

To ensure that all areas of the new website function smoothly as desired, we worked a little magic and programmed customised extensions:
For example, users can easily find their way through the wealth of content thanks to flexible, customised search functions. Not only do editors benefit from the approval workflow, but maintenance and management of the more than 500 UNESCO sites is now straightforward and clear thanks to an extension we programmed - including simple entry of geocoordinates or the selection of keywords from a category system, which also feeds the search filters. With a new extension for the DUK publications, we have ensured that they are available in a clear and appealing way.

Service for the editorial crew

A wide range of content and topics - that also means a lot of work for the large DUK editorial team. To make it easier for them, we have implemented the backend accordingly: a multi-stage approval process coordinated with the tried-and-tested workflow supports quality assurance; a well-structured page tree makes it easier to find the work areas and is supplemented by the centralised maintenance of locations, messages, dates or keywording. The automatic display of thematically appropriate content (related content) also simplifies editorial tasks.

Convincing overall appearance

Everyone benefits from the wealth of projects, places and achievements presented, as accessibility and performance were also important aspects of the implementation: font enlargement, a high-contrast dark mode and pages translated by us in plain language make content accessible, while the energy-saving mode enables use with lower power consumption.

From the kick-off of the communication strategy to the launch of the new website in November 2024, we developed and flexibly implemented all solutions together with our contacts at DUK - a major project that was a lot of fun thanks to its positive atmosphere and communication. Our work has received many awards. We work on projects with journalistic standards and high benchmarks for design and usability. Thanks to these criteria, 3pc was awarded the Grimme Online Award as well as other prizes.
